The NRA Basic Pistol Licensing Class introduces students to the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. Through this course, the students will learn about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, pistol shooting fundamentals and pistol shooting activities. This course will also help prepare attendees for participation in other NRA courses. The main focus of this course is firearm safety; other topics include but are not limited to: Article 35 and NY laws pertaining to the use and carry of your Pistol, Safe handling of a handgun in your home, on the range. This is the first 8 hours of the NRA Basic Pistol 10 hour class, there is no live fire conducted. The NRA Basic Pistol Licensing class is required in order to apply for a New York State Pistol permit in Oneida, Herkimer and Madison Counties. The permit that you will be issued is good in all of New York State except New York City.
