PRACTICE O.M.E.C.A. Once you attend a class what do you do to retain and improve the skills learned? I was introduced to M.C.A.- Mechanics, Consistency, Aggression by friend and mentor @heybminus of @pfc_training. Since then I've added a few elements I find important. #OMECA: Observation-personal protection begins and ends with your ability to observe AND process what you are seeing, sensing or feeling. Observation can be visual, tactile or sensory and include personal, situational and environmental acuity. I may observe an area for threats or observe my front sight during recoil to self diagnose shooting problems/errors. Mechanics- are the working parts of the skills you learn. The physical mechanics of a take-down or of a pistol reload. Observe personal mechanics and those of others then analyze them by applying parts of OMECA such as efficiency, consistency and aggression. Practice mechanics perfectly and deliberately to start then add aggression. Observe your own mechanics while performing a skill (front site) or by video taping yourself during regular practice sessions. Efficiency- Observation skills and mechanics need to be as efficient as possible requiring the least amount of energy output in the least amount of time. Efficient observation and mechanics = better aggression and speed. Consistency- repeatable performance of efficient observation and mechanics. Consistency in mechanics is the sign of a professional, someone who understand the necessity for personal protection training and practices regularly. (One of the most inconsistent observational and mechanical skill sets I observe on ranges is safe gun-handling). Aggression- your willingness to do violence, when reasonable and necessary, is pivotal to protecting yourself or others. Practice aggression once efficiency and consistency in mechanics have been achieved; observe aggression in others to understand your personal aggressiveness or lack there of. Forceful and assertive application of efficient and consistent mechanics=speed. Apply OMECA to multiple disciplines to include threat management, fitness, physical defense, knife/impact tools, pistol, shotgun and carbine. #MDTS#training#pfc#practice
