PRACTICE: What does it take to improve and get better or maintain a certain skill set while focusing on another? After time, effort and $$ has been spent on training the next step is to continue study of the subject matter via reading, videos, discussion with friends and training partners. In conjunction with this study a consistent #practice program for that skill needs to be programmed and followed. Key word, CONSISTENT. I like @aprillriskconsulting "Every day no days off" #edndo saying. This doesn't mean spending an hour every day practicing. Maybe it's 5, 15 or 30min or more compressed into a micro-practice session depending upon 1) schedule – I knock these micro-practice sessions out first thing in the morning thus making sure it gets done and nothing "comes up" to prevent me practicing 2) hierarchy of skill in overall defensive profile- for example, my current focus right now is #BJJ so the majority of my study, training & practice time is on that. I don't want to lose any of the other skills I've spent time developing so I do daily micro-practice (5-30min) sessions on other skill sets such as pistol, knife, shotgun, carbine and physical defense. I have found that making these micro-practice sessions convenient and fun are important factors influencing consistency. For pistol some support gear to consider which will make dryfire practice convenient and fun include: @nltsirt #SIRT pistol @benstoegerproshop #dryfire targets @tridentconcepts #tacost dryfire card set, the Par Timer iPhone app from Fallen Silo LLC #shotmaxx wristwatch timer and the "1000 Days of Dryfire" Facebook group formed and moderated by my friend Claude Werner, The Tactical Professor. Claude has an excellent Pistol Practice Program and accompanying CD Rom with scaled targets, plans and audio programs available at his website https://tacticalprofessor.wordpress.com/pistol-practice-program/ – A good dryfire program is no replacement for live fire practice so get to the range and test your skills routinely @shivworks_and_alumni @aprillriskconsulting @llindenman @sharpdefense #studytrainpracticetest #practice #everydaynodaysoff #pistol #MDTS #training #shotgun #carbine
