PHYSICAL DEFENSE: MARTIAL ARTS

PHYSICAL DEFENSE: I'm often asked what I think of this Martial Art or Combatives method, system or style. The fact is I've seen outliers from every Martial System; an individual that is dangerous in some way. The system, style or method is simply a delivery system (credit to @sbgipdx for this terminology). Consider: What are your goals? To protect yourself, get fit, engage in competition, study an art? And, which delivery system will provide a viable product in a timely manner? When defining viable in terms of "fighting systems" you will hear things like: this is a "combat proven" system, this is from "special forces", this is a "combat art", this is "street proven". But, these descriptions are mostly anecdotal or simply a sales pitch with no evidence base to back them up other than "stories" or reference to this "fighter" or "master" who had 300 street fights. SO, that system MUST be the best, sign here. Having studied martial arts and interpersonal conflict for 30+ years I've seen a lot of stuff. Some good, some bad. What I find myself coming back to since the early 90's is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. #BJJ, via the Gracie family challenge, early UFC and opposition based multidisciplinary training/testing such as @shivworks_and_alumni ECQC has provided REAL evidence of its efficacy for self protection against resistant opponents, in and out of weapons based environments. 6-12 mo of BJJ and most will be able to functionally protect themselves, be more fit, engage in competition via sparring and study a highly practical martial art. Just be aware that none of it's free, there are no short cuts or secret techniques. You are going to have to work and how hard you work will determine how fast you progress. Supplement BJJ with Muay Thai Kickboxing or MMA type class for stand up striking skills and you have a well rounded, functional and effective method of offense or defense depending upon your goals or mission. Before you argue, nay-say and oppose my opinion here, consider @sharpdefense t-shirt seen in pic. It says it best. #MDTS #dojo1 #D1 #lensoniamartialarts @llindenman @aprillriskconsulting @c4c_operator @pfc_training @immediateactioncombatives
