FOLDING KNIVES: OPENING MECHANISMS

KNIVES: Folding knives come with a great variety of "opening mechanisms". When selecting a folder for personal protection it's important to select one with an opening mechanism that works best for you and an understanding of various opening methodologies. Pictured here are a variety of common types of opening mechanisms available today. Each has its pro's and con's. Like guns, it's recommended you go to a good knife shop and handle the various models and test out the various opening mechanisms prior to just buying something. Possessing an understanding of various opening methodologies allows one to pick up any folding knife and deploy the blade rapidly, with practice, if necessary. Opening methodologies include, mechanical opening devices: 1) Spyderco Hole 2) Thumb stud 3) Disc/Wafer 4) Emerson wave 5) Flipper/Lever 6) Buttons on auto knives And manual openings: 1) Inertia 2)Torque 3) Two Hands. Having the right folding knife that fits your hand/finger size and a consistent opening methodology equals greater success and better efficiency during accessing of the folding knife. This is often overlooked by many first time knife buyers who have a preconceived notion that they can and will utilize the folding knife under duress of an attack. If you can control the gear which you bring to a possible fight (EDC), in this case a folding knife, why wouldn't you bring the best gear available; what is your life worth? Do your research, invest wisely and train. @spyderco_inc @coldsteelknives @crkt_knives @BenchmadeKnives @kershawknives #MDTS #practicalsmallknifeskills #foldingknives #folders #mdtstraining
